During their time in graduate school, Roxana Kadyrova and Johanna Velasquez discovered a shared sensibility—an intuitive approach to space rooted in narrative, material, and atmosphere. What began as an exchange between practices naturally evolved into a collaboration, and so CHÂTELAINE was formed.

Based in Brooklyn, CHÂTELAINE is a design and decoration studio creating immersive, highly detailed environments. The studio approaches each project as a composition—layering objects, textures, and histories to shape spaces that feel both intimate and transportive.

Drawing from a deep sensitivity to storytelling, their work often blends the archival with the theatrical, the collected with the constructed. Interiors unfold through carefully curated elements—books, textiles, found objects, and bespoke interventions—each contributing to a larger spatial narrative.
